THE NEWS

Welcome!
The International Polar Year (IPY) is a global effort to focus the world's attention and research resources on the Polar Regions.

The CQ4IPY is a Special Event Amateur Radio Station Polar  is a not-for-profit, member for International Polar Year Award . This Operation is dedicated to promoting  awareness of the polar regions. The PURPOSE is to promote and divulge the work of scientists by conservation and promoting awareness of the polar regions, and effects of climate change on the environment and people through amateur radio , education, and special projects.    This unique collaborative relationship between amateur radio  and scientists increases the public's awareness and understanding of polar science, creates a new medium for scientific outreach, and engages operatores from different countries, different parts of the globe in the early stages of research communications and outreach. The CQ4IPY links directly with International Polar Year research and helps meet IPY outreach and public awareness goals.

Get involved in the launch of IPY!
If you want to get involved in International Polar Year right from the start now is your chance!! Amateur Radio as responsibility to help on this matter passing the word as a GLOBAL ALERT ! around the world .Our actions are very important due to inform what's happening NOW in Polar Zones about their concerns for the Polar Regions and what they personally are doing to make a difference.

GLOBAL ALERT!

Polar regions may be far away from where you live. But that doesn't mean they don't matter to your life. Polar Regions are important to the Earth's climate system. And some of the most exciting science research is happening at places like McMurdo Station in Antarctica.

Changing Snow and Ice: IPY occurs amidst abundant evidence of changes in snow and ice: reductions in extent and mass of glaciers and ice sheets, reductions in area, timing, and duration of snow cover, and reductions in extent and thickness of sea ice. Changes in snow cover and sea ice have immediate local consequences for terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Permafrost, an additional form of ice that influences nearly 25% of the northern hemisphere landmass, also shows subst

ALERTA GLOBAL !    PLEASE TAKE A LOOK HERE

As áreas polares têm fenômenos únicos. Os sistemas de circulação do ar e correntes marítimas tanto profundas   como superficiais, são maiores do que em outras regiões magnéticas da Terra. Grandes geleiras capturaram amostras da atmosfera e conservou-lhes as características, desde tempos remotos. Estes fenômenos são somente observáveis - ou melhor apreendidos - próximo aos pólos.Com o aumento da temperatura no mundo, está em curso o degelo das calotes polares. Ao aumentar o nível médio das águas dos oceanos, pode ocorrer, futuramente, a submersão de muitas áreas litorais;

Crescimento e surgimento de desertos: o aumento da temperatura provoca a morte de várias espécies animais e vegetais, desequilibrando vários ecossistemas. Somado à desflorestação que tem vindo a ocorrer, principalmente nas florestas tropicais, faz com que a tendência seja no sentido de aumentar cada vez mais as regiões desérticas no nosso planeta;
